Family

What is family? Is it defined by blood, or by the care someone provides? Family can be people related to you or maybe just a neighbor. Your "family" are the people that deep down, would do anything and everything for you. Yet, it is your decision to give the same love back. Only people special in your heart can make the final cut. So yes, family can be anybody, but not just anybody. A member of a family has to care for a person immensely. Family is greatly represented in both A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith and "Stone Soup" by Barbara Kingsolver.
In A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, Katie shows immense love for her children. She will do anything to make sure her children have a bright future. She is shown multiple times fighting through hardships to make sure her children will be perfect. First, she makes sure Francie gets through her sickness and lives past her first years. "I know she'll live, I'll make her live." Then she is shown pushing her son's determination so that he pursues a life of medicine. "I'll make him be a doctor." Someone who shows that much passion for someone is family. Katie would walk to the ends of the Earth just to make sure her children's life isn't as bad as her's is.
In "Stone soup" Kingsolver explains how a family could be anybody. She also notes "Don't judge a family by how they seem or act" She is telling us how that an unconventional family really isn't unconventional, because they love each other's  and that is all that a family really is, people who love each lover deeply, as stated before. If they care for each other then they are a family.
In the end, that is the function of a family. To be an emotional backbone for one another. To be there in times of need for one another. To cry with someone or share joy with someone. To be in a family you must love the other person to unrealistic extents.A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is based around the art and structure of a family. Without it there would be no story! Without family most of the world would go psychotic and spiral into a world of madness! Thankfully, there is family. Thankfully, we do have people watching our backs and make sure we don't go insane. That is one wonder of this world people will never understand. Why people love each other so much they would sacrifice themselves. I think it's not to be questioned.

Sacredness of the ordinary

There are basic necessities for a person to live, yet there are also things the people need to live happily. Sometimes there are things a person would never give up. These things could be anything; toys, trinkets, or even rocks. A person is defined by how they act and what they like. What I love is my Tom Brady jersey.

My jersey is more than just a piece of clothing; It represents memories, love, and pride. My jersey is full of memories from the past of good times and bad times. Every time I put it on it reminds me of all those times I watched the pats games in a stadium, in a sports bar, or just as simple as sitting ad on the couch. It reminds me of the anger that would wash over my face when the Pats would lose. Also, it reminds me of the happiness, joy, and enthusiasm that sparks inside me anytime something good happens to them.

The jersey also represents love. Love for my family and love for the pats. My family are the people that bestowed this gift to me. This gift leads to happiness and sorrow, but whatever is the outcome there is always the feeling of thankfulness, because without the people that love me I would have never received the gift. The jersey is a symbol of love. Yes, that sounded really corny, but it's true; I am not the only person in the world that shines the red white and blue of the Patriots. When I see a fellow lover of the team, we embrace that by introducing ourselves and describing what we like most. What I am wearing allows me to make friends in a split second. It is a powerful device.

Lastly, what makes the jersey a spectacle is its silent pride. It doesn't stick out like a sore thumb and annoy everybody. It speaks stories when no one is talking. People look upon it and look up to me. It represents fans before me that enjoyed what I enjoyed. It will represent fans that come after me.  It is pride made out of cotton. Every time I put it on I feel stronger and more courageous. I feel like nothing can stop me. I feel like a power that can bust through anything!

My jersey may look like a simple piece of clothing to some people, but to me it is sacred. It brings and reminds me of good memories. It brings out love that surrounds me and it shines pride and loyalty. It is an icon to others. Many people will just believe it's a piece of clothing. Many people won't look at it and be memorized. Yet, I am not many people. I look past the cotton and and lettering and I see the beauty in it. It is something more the what you put on your back.
